EDGEWATER, Fla. — A semi-truck carrying five sharks crashed on a Florida highway, and one of the sharks died.
Firefighters and Florida Highway Patrol responded after a separated tire caused the truck to go off the road and get stuck in the center median on Interstate 95, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.
The 5-foot-long sharks were being transported in individual aquariums. One of the aquariums was damaged in the crash, and the shark inside died, Florida Highway Patrol Spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said.
The sharks were being transported to an aquarium in New York and another semi-truck arrived to continue the transport of the four surviving sharks, WESH reports.
The crash occurred as heavy storms hit central Florida on Wednesday. No information was available on the species of the sharks, or the company transporting them.
