‘A major win': Seattle-area AMR EMTs approve contract with 19% wage increase

A three-year agreement approved by Teamsters Local 763 includes a 19% wage increase, improved shift pay and stronger protections for part-time and training staff

LONGVIEW, Wash. — Union AMR emergency medical technicians in the greater Seattle area approved a new three-year contract that includes a 19% wage increase along with new and expanded worker protections.

The changes do not include workers in Cowlitz County, though the company serves the area.

AMR is a subsidiary of Global Medical Response, which the company says is the largest medical transportation company in the world, and AMR has roughly 180 locations across the contiguous United States and Hawaii.

Its presence in Washington state includes Cowlitz and Clark counties in Southwest Washington, along with the greater Seattle, Olympia, Spokane, Pasco, Yakima and areas, according to the company’s website.

According to a union spokesperson, Teamsters Local 763 represents 350 EMTs in the greater Seattle area in the counties of King, Snohomish and Pierce.

Those protections include improved pay for trainers, better pay for EMTs working the night shift and “stronger protections for part-time workers,” according to a Teamsters Local 763 news release.

It goes on to specify protections against undercutting a union worker’s use of unpaid administrative leave, an extended warning period for canceled shifts and mandates that AMR management give a cause for worker reassignments.

Chad Baker, Local 763’s secretary-treasurer, said in the release that he is “incredibly proud” of the bargaining team’s work on the contract.

“This contract is a major win for our EMTs, setting the standard for pay and job protections across EMS in the region,” Baker said.
