Surveillance footage shows the man speeding off into oncoming traffic

NEW YORK CITY — A drunken man took an ambulance for a joyride Saturday while EMS employees were responding to a residential call.

Officials said Juan Delo Santos, 21, entered the ambulance through the back doors and drove off.

Surveillance footage shows Santos sitting in the car as several others attempted to enter the vehicle. He then drives off on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic, reported the NY Post.

Santos engaged in a short-lived car chase with officers, until he crashed into a double-parked vehicle. He was immediately arrested.

Bail for Santos was set at $5,000. He was arraigned Sunday afternoon and charged with grand larceny, reckless endangerment, unauthorized use of a vehicle, aggravated DWI, possession of stolen property, criminal impersonation and criminal mischief.

No one was injured in the incident.
