Log falls from truck, goes through ambulance windshield

Investigators say the log truck driver did not realize the accident occurred and left the scene

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — A log smashed through an ambulance's windshield in Georgia on Tuesday in what was initially investigated as a hit-and-run.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office reported that the accident occurred early Tuesday morning and that the log truck had left the scene. It is unclear if the rig was also struck by the truck or if the only damage was due to the falling log.

The sheriff's office later reported that investigators had located the log truck driver, who they said did not realize the accident had occurred and will not be charged, but that the investigation will continue.

"Luckily there were no major injuries reported in this accident," the sheriff's office stated.
