CROCKETT, Calif. — An ambulance collided with a cement truck early Thursday morning, seriously injuring two paramedics. A subsequent, secondary collision killed a driver of another vehicle.
NBC Bay Area reported that the first crash on Interstate 80 occurred around 1:50 a.m. as the ambulance was en route to pick up a neonatal patient. As the initial accident was clearing, the truck ran into a secondary three-vehicle collision and crashed into a Mazda, killing the driver.
The driver of the ambulance didn’t see the truck was stopped in the road. When she tried to make a lane change, she couldn’t and swerved left, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jennifer Mapa said.
The ambulance crew and one other person were taken to the hospital with major injuries, a fire captain said, adding that he thought they’d pull through.
