Call to Action: Texas man who assaulted paramedic to be released from prison

Well over a year ago, a Texas paramedic was assaulted when Bryan Lawson Cotton threw a hydraulic jack from a on overpass onto a Parker County ambulance (see article). Paramedic Donnie Stone was in the passenger side of the ambulance, travelling at approximately 45 miles per hour, and was struck in the face by the jack as it penetrated the windshield.

Stone suffered complex facial trauma and a skull fracture and was off work for several weeks. Detectives in Parker County, Texas (west of Fort Worth) caught Cotton and charged him with aggravated assault. He received a sentence of seven years in the Texas Department of Corrections (TDC).

However, under Texas law, Cotton is eligible for release from TDC in six months (only serving 18 months). In fact, Cotton only arrived at the Texas prison last week (he had been in the Parker County jail).
