Ambulance gets ‘booted’ while medics tend to emergency

Restrictive device placed on the wheels meant medics has to call for another ambulance to transport patient

NEW ORLEANS — An ambulance was booted Friday while medics were tending to a man with chest pains inside a convenience store.

New Orleans EMS spokesman Jeb Tate told WWL-TV the paramedics only realized the restrictive parking boot had been placed on their ambulance when they tried to transport the patient.

With the ambulance unable to move, the boot was removed, only to cause a flat tire. The medics were forced to call another ambulance to pick up the patient.

“We actually had to delay that patient’s care by calling another ambulance out here to come transport this patient,” Tate said.

“As long as we have our lights on, we park where it is safe to park,” he added.

Staff at Quicky’s convenience store in Mid-City refused to comment on the incident.
