5 hurt in Calif. ambulance crash

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — An AmeriCare ambulance with lights and siren on was struck by another vehicle in Manhattan Beach Wednesday morning while transporting a patient.

The patient being transported was seriously ill, but was not hurt in the crash, according to The Daily Breeze.

A El Segundo paramedic unit that arrived on the scene took the patient to the hospital.

A responder in the back of the ambulance that was struck was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Following the initial collision, two other vehicles also crashed at the scene. Three other people suffered minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the police.
