FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A new ambulance began its service with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue on Friday night with a very special delivery: 5-pound, 11-ounce Jeremy Garcia.

Rescue 14 was barely stocked up with supplies when the call for service about a woman in labor came through about 7:40 p.m., according to Mike Jachles, spokesman for Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.

It was for a residence in Broadview Park, an unincorporated neighborhood near Fort Lauderdale, in the 1300 block of Southwest 44th Terrace. The mother-to-be, Evelyn Garcia, 45, was already overdue to give birth, firefighter Eric Solera said. The contractions were coming fast.
