Health Dept. to order ambulances to avoid NY hospital

For now, medics will travel to more distant hosptials

NEW YORK — The state health department will order ambulances to stop using Long Island College Hospital beginning Thursday. The move comes on the heels of the hospital’s expected closing.

Medics responding to 911 calls will have to trek to distant facilities, the Daily News reported. It’s the latest closure announcement in a string of ongoing threats for the hospital — due in part to talks with a top bidder that collapsed earlier this month.

Another bidder, Peebles Corp., is offering some health care services, but not a full-service hospital.
