UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Fire damaged a Prince George’s County firehouse and fire apparatus when an ambulance inside the firehouse caught fire.

The Prince George’s County Fire Department posted on X that at 5:12 a.m. on Sept. 3, smoke alarms alerted firefighters inside the Upper Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department to the fire, WJLA reported.

Public Information Director Alan Doubleday said firefighters inside the firehouse were able to escape without injury.

“That fire burned up into the ceiling and partially through the roof of the firehouse, so we have significant damage,” Doubleday said, adding that the firehouse did not have sprinklers.

A fire engine and heavy rescue were damaged in the fire and towed from the station Sunday morning to be inspected.

Doubleday confirmed that reserve fire and EMS apparatus will be placed in service, and there will be no disruption of service to the area.

Firefighters assigned to the firehouse will work out of a nearby station to continue to provide service to the area.
