BATON ROUGE, La. — A man stole an Acadian ambulance early Friday, led law enforcement officers on a chase and crashed the rig, WAFB reported.

Authorities said that Jermie McCurley was being transported to St. Charles Parish Ochsner Hospital in Boutte. EMS providers were about to unload him when he got into the driver’s seat and took off.

The EMS providers were unhurt, Acadian Ambulance Service said.

The chase went through multiple parishes before the ambulance crashed in Baton Rouge. The man was hospitalized and state troopers said he will be booked when he is out of the hospital.
