ERIE, Pa. — A portion of a busy west Erie intersection was shut down for a time late Sunday afternoon following a three-vehicle crash involving an ambulance.

The crash was reported on Sunday at about 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of West 12th Street and Greengarden Road. A Millcreek Paramedic Service ambulance, a BMW sedan and a Buick Enclave were involved in the crash.

According to the occupants of the BMW and the Buick, the BMW was traveling north on Greengarden Road and the Buick was traveling south on the road when the collision occurred with the ambulance. The ambulance crew was responding to a call but did not have a patient aboard, according to a Millcreek Paramedic Service official at the scene.

The BMW received damage on both sides and Erie Bureau of Fire crews had to pry open the driver and passenger side doors to free the three occupants, Deputy Fire Chief John Herrmann said.

There were no injuries reported in the crash.
