Mo. ambulance crew seriously injured in fatal head-on crash

Two Van-Far EMS members were flown to University Hospital in Columbus after a fatal head-on collision

NEW LONDON, Mo. —  A head-on collision with an ambulance near New London killed one person and sent two EMS members to the hospital in serious condition.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated the crash occurred on U.S. Route 61 near New London at about 9:50 p.m. on July 4. The driver of an SUV was driving the wrong way in the southbound lane when she struck a Van-Far ambulance head-on, KSDK reported.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene. KTVO reported that the two Van-Far EMS members were flown to University Hospital in Columbia.

According to the highway patrol crash report, the driver of the SUV was wearing a seat belt but neither occupant in the ambulance was.
