LITCHFIELD, Ill. — A Litchfield ambulance was responding to a call Wednesday with its lights and siren on when it collided with a car near an intersection, causing the ambulance to flip onto its roof and come to rest on an unoccupied parked vehicle.
Both firefighter-paramedics were able to extricate themselves, according to the Litchfield Fire Department.
The two notified dispatchers, requested assistance and began treating the other driver.
The ambulance was not carrying a patient.
Additional personnel extricated the driver of the passenger vehicle. Gillespie Benld Area Ambulance, which was requested for mutual aid, transported the driver to St. Francis Hospital.
Both firefighter-paramedics were transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The crash is being investigated.
