DOUGLAS COUNTY — Two people were injured after hitting an ambulance early Wednesday on I-70 near Topeka, Kansas.
The Topeka Capitol-Journal reported that James and Carol Beck were traveling westbound on the Kansas Turnpike when their Honda Odyssey collided with an ambulance from Riley County EMS.
The Honda spun and hit the barrier wall, striking the ambulance a second time, which caused the Honda to cross all lanes of traffic and end up in a ditch.
Scott Eyck, who was driving the ambulance at the time, was not injured. Eyck, who was wearing his seat belt, had been returning from transporting a patient to Kansas City, Joshua Gering with Riley County EMS told the Hays Post.
The Becks, who were wearing their seat belts, were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.
Editor’s note: This story has been corrected to clarify which vehicle spun out and landed in a ditch.
