Photo of the Week: Ohio air ambulance service saves lives with on-board blood

Mercy Health — Life Flight recently launched its on-board blood program, allowing for in-flight transfusions of O-negative blood

Calling all EMS photographers! EMS1 wants to see pictures of you in action or training. Submit a photo — it could be selected as our Photo of the Week! Be sure to include your name, department information and some background on the photo.

This week's Photo of the Week comes from Mercy Health — Life Flight in Ohio, which recently launched its first on-board blood program allowing for in-flight transfusions. Units of O-negative blood will now be carried on every flight, and Life Flight crews have already administered blood several times in the first few weeks of the program.

"For those with a critical injury or medical condition, blood can make the difference between life and death," said Merch Health — Life Flight Network Medical Director Bill Krebs, DO, in a statement. "The ability to bring blood to the patient is a game-changing treatment for patients in our region."
