MT. TAMALPAIS, Calif. — In a dramatic rescue, the California Highway Patrol lifted a 28-year-old San Francisco woman with a medical emergency from the cliffs of Mount Tamalpais and helicoptered her to a Walnut Creek hospital Sunday evening, a CHP spokesman said.
The CHP got a call around 7 p.m. Sunday reporting a woman with a medical problem on a trail on the eastern side of Mount Tamalpais State Park, CHP Officer Scott Cakebread said. The CHP did not release the woman’s name or the nature of her problem, but did say the problem was not life-threatening.
A helicopter crew responded about 10 minutes later and found the woman lying on a rock outcropping with steep cliffs on each side, attended by a park ranger, Cakebread said. The crew lowered rescue equipment to the park ranger, who lifted the woman onto a stretcher suspended by cables. Crew members hoisted her about 50 feet from the cliff’s edge to the helicopter, Cakebread said.
The helicopter crew took the woman to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek because she was in need of immediate medical assistance, Cakebread said.
