DARKE COUNTY, Ohio — The state of Ohio has fined an ambulance company over $478,000 for accepting improper Medicaid payments and providing transportation services without proper authorization.
Documents show that Integrity Ambulance Services was overpaid $448,428 between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2014. The company also owes the state’s Medicaid $29,666 in interest, reported WHIO.
Investigators found that out of 862 transports in three statistical samples, 227 services failed to have proper documentation and certification. It was also discovered that 214 transports did not certify patients for medical necessity, failed to document a medical condition and was not signed by an authorized practitioner.
Further findings revealed 32 additional errors, in which the service failed to document trips, billed more miles than total miles documented and completed transports by an ineligible driver.
“Complying with driver qualifications, service documentation and service authorization, among other requirements, are non-negotiable,” auditor David Yost said.
