NEW YORK — A New York City police officer and at least two others were killed during a shooting inside a Midtown Manhattan office building that houses some of the nation’s top financial firms, the Associated Press reports.

The shooting unfolded around 6:30 p.m. Monday at a Park Avenue high-rise that houses companies including Blackstone and the National Football League headquarters. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

The suspect was identified as Shane Tamura, of Nevada, according to the Associated Press. He fatally shot himself, according to the report.

The officer was working an off-duty job as a security officer at the building when he was fatally shot. He is assigned to the Bronx, the New York Daily News reports.

Footage from the scene showed office workers evacuating with their hands raised as officers secured the building. The FDNY confirmed emergency crews responded to reports of a person shot.

In a post on X, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said agents were assisting at what he described as an “active crime scene.” Mayor Eric Adams urged residents and visitors in Midtown to remain indoors as authorities responded to the unfolding incident.

The building also includes offices for the Consulate General of Ireland.

The NYPD is expected to release more information as the investigation progresses.
