NEW ORLEANS — First responders celebrated an annual 911 poster contest to encourage and integrate responders in the communities they serve.
Over 600 submissions from students in grades kindergarten through 12 were produced under the theme of “Dialing 911 for help.”
The competition served as an opportunity for students to express the importance of first responders to the New Orleans community. It not only acts as a bridge between the three branches of public safety, but also creates a dialogue through art on the role that dispatchers play during an emergency.
Firefighters, EMS providers and police officers attended the award ceremony, in which three first place prizes were selected. Each winner received a $500 cash prize. Prize donations were sponsored by several organizations, including the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation, New Orleans Fire Department and New Orleans EMS Foundation.
