ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. — A county was recognized for limiting the amount of frequent 911 callers thanks to their community paramedicine program efforts.

WNCT reported that the National Association of Counties honored Onslow County for utilizing their community paramedicine program to work with patients who frequently call 911 to determine how to address their issues.

Onslow County EMS division head David Grovdahl said paramedics not only treat the patients’ symptoms, but they work to find the root of the problem.

“These users have become dependent on the EMS system,” Grovdahl said. “And so what we’re trying to do is actually connect them with the right resources so they can regain their independence.”
