Mayor Lovely Warren said the dispatchers did not contact the fire department dive team after several 911 callers reported a boy walking on a bridge

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Six dispatchers were suspended for not following policy after an autistic boy wandered away from school and drowned in a river.

Associated Press reported that several 911 callers reported sightings of Trevyan Rowe, 14, walking on a highway bridge after apparently wandering away from school.

After a three-day search for the teen, his body was pulled from the Genesee River.

Mayor Lovely Warren said the dispatchers did not follow policy when they failed to dispatch a water rescue team after receiving the calls, which included some callers who said he was on the wrong side of the guardrail.

“Had it not been for adult failures, Trevyan Rowe may still be with us,” Mayor Warren said.

The incident is currently under investigation.
