Dispatcher answers mother’s domestic violence call

Mallory Ransom sent police to intervene after answering a call from her mother, who was being held at gunpoint by her fiancé

DALWORTHINGTON GARDENS, Texas — A 911 dispatcher in Texas received the toughest call of her career last month when she answered a call for help from her mother.

Fox4News.com reported dispatcher Mallory Ransom sent police to intervene after responding to the call from her mother, Debra, who was being held at gunpoint by her fiancé Donald Graves.

“I always feel sympathy and heartache for them because they’re going through one of the worst days of their life. But it’s magnified when it’s somebody you know, especially your mom,” said Ransom.

While Ransom was on the call, Graves shot Debra in the face and then shot himself. Ransom heard the gunshots.

“Her voice was getting weaker and she kept basically telling me goodbye. She was telling me that she loved me and she was sorry and goodbye,” said Ransom.

Ransom said her training kicked in and helped her keep her emotions at bay long enough to handle the call, according to the report.

“I had to. She was going to get taken out of that house and everybody at the scene was going to be safe because that’s my job,” she said.

About 25 minutes into the call, Ransom headed to the scene.

“I was sobbing the entire way. It gave me that outlet to get all of my emotions I was holding back in dispatch out,” she said.

Ransom’s mother survived the shooting. She faces a long road to recovery and is still hospitalized.

Graves was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
