WASHINGTON — The Library of Congress will soon become home to a collection of oral histories provided by responders to the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on New York’s World Trade Center.
Officials said Friday that the collection is being donated to the American Folklife Center by Dr. Benjamin Luft. Luft is a professor of medicine at Stony Brook University who treated many of the first responders. The collection includes 200 oral histories and more than 1,000 photographs, manuscript materials, logbooks and indexes involving response and recovery workers.
The donation is only a portion of Luft’s collection, and officials say future installments are expected.
The folklife center already has collected scores of narratives from around the country about the Sept. 11 attacks, including audio and video recordings concerning peoples’ experiences and reactions.
