ROYALTON, Vt. — A Vermont State Police trooper was airlifted with severe injuries to a hospital after the patrol vehicle he was driving crashed into the back of a fire truck, VNews reports.
The crash happened on March 8, when the trooper’s SUV rear-ended a Bethel Fire Department fire truck that was staged while responding to a separate crash on Interstate 89.
Vermont State Police identified the injured trooper as Cpl. Eric Vitali, a 19-year veteran of the state police.
There were no firefighters inside the truck at the time of the crash.
The trooper was airlifted to a hospital in New Hampshire with severe injuries, according to the report.
