Medic critically injured after ambulance collision

John Mackey was struck while inspecting his ambulance for damage after it collided with another vehicle

JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. — A paramedic is critically injured after being struck by another vehicle.

Nicholasville Police say the ambulance was responding to a call at the jail around 7:30 p.m. when the ambulance collided with another vehicle. The ambulance pulled over so that one of the EMS providers could check for damage, reported WKYT.

John Mackey walked out from between two vehicles and was struck by a third vehicle. Immediate care was given to him by his partner. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Jessamine County EMS Chief Aaron Stamper said Friday morning that Mackey was in “a critical state”, Kentucky.com reported.

Mackey’s colleagues started a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical expenses.

The accident remains under investigation by the Nicholasville Police Department.
