BUFFALO, N.Y. — Authorities say a woman apparently trying to commit suicide has survived a 100-foot plunge off the Buffalo, N.Y., bridge linking the U.S. and Canada.
The Buffalo News reports that the woman was seen pacing on the walkway of the Peace Bridge late Monday morning before removing her shoes and jumping into the Niagara River.
A U.S. Coast Guard crew stationed about two miles south of the bridge used a 25-foot boat to reach the area within minutes. They found the woman floating and pulled her into the boat. She was taken to shore and handed over to an ambulance crew who took her to a Buffalo hospital.
The woman, said to be in her 30s, is reported in stable condition. Her name hasn’t been released.
