EUREKA, Calif. — A female pedestrian was hit by a school bus Wednesday afternoon as the driver was exiting the Humboldt County Office of Education parking lot onto Myrtle Avenue in Eureka.
Around 2 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the 950 block of Myrtle Avenue to find that the male driver of an Humboldt County Office of Education school bus had hit a female pedestrian. No students were on the bus.
Eureka Police Officer Gary Whitmer said the woman didn’t appear to have any visible injuries, but was transported by ambulance to the hospital as a precaution. Whitmer said the bus driver informed him that he’d come to a complete stop at the parking lot entrance before attempting to turn on Myrtle Avenue. The driver said no one was in sight, but as he inched forward to exit, a pedestrian appeared out of nowhere and walked in front of the bus.
Whitmer said the driver told him the bus nudged the woman, but didn’t knock her to the ground. Additional details were unavailable by the Times-Standard’s deadline.
