STAYTON, Ore. — An Oregon hospital is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the theft of an ambulance last week that ended with the rig being discovered in flames.
Santiam Hospital has put forward the reward in the continuing investigation of the July 21 theft, which occurred in the middle of the night while the rig was parked at the hospital, according to the Statesman Journal.
Loggers discovered the rig on fire on a remote logging road shortly after it was stolen, according to Stayton Police Department Chief David Frisendahl. The fire took almost an entire day to extinguish and the rig was burned “down to the frame,” Frisendahl told the Statesman Journal.
The ambulance and its contents were valued at about $150,000, Frisendahl said. He added that the theft was caught on surveillance footage but that the video is too grainy to identify a suspect.
Officials said information about the theft can be reported to the Stayton Police Department, Linn County Sheriff’s Office or Santiam Hospital administration.
