CAMBRIDGE, Md. — Maryland State Police arrested a man Friday after he allegedly stole and crashed an ambulance.
The Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services ambulance was reportedly stolen from outside the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, according to a state police news release. Authorities say the theft was reported at about 8:10 p.m. Friday and troopers soon located the ambulance traveling west in Cambridge, Md.
Police say the suspect, later identified as Augustus Redditt, 52, of Baltimore, “activated the ambulance’s emergency equipment in an attempt to move vehicles out of the way,” and eventually lost control of the rig, which left the road and rolled over, according to the news release.
Redditt was taken into custody by troopers and transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton to be treated for injuries. He was later discharged from the hospital and taken to the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack for processing. He is charged with vehicle theft, driving under the influence, drug possession and related traffic offenses.
