BELL COUNTY, Ky. — A 911 dispatcher was shot and killed early Friday at the Bell County 911 Center, WKYT reported.
Two dispatchers were inside the building trading firearms when a weapon was accidentally discharged, and Kyle Garrett, 23, was hit, the county sheriff’s department said.
He was transported to the Pineville Community Health Center but did not survive.
Non-sworn personnel are not allowed to have firearms inside the 911 center, according to the sheriff’s office.
The two dispatchers were cousins and best friends, the sheriff’s office stated.
An autopsy will be performed, and the Kentucky State Police are investigating.
