BERKELEY, Calif. — Four juveniles were arrested and one injured in front of Berkeley High School Monday afternoon in connection with a beating and a strong arm robbery, police said.
Police do not know if the incidents were related, but dispatchers received 911 calls on both incidents in short succession.
A middle school student was treated for facial cuts and released by Berkeley fire department paramedics on the Berkeley High campus.
Police believe the fight at Berkeley High evolved from an altercation at nearby Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. A boy was assaulted at the middle school. He then rode the bus to Berkeley High where a second fight started involving the boy and high school students, police said.
Shortly after police received the 911 call about students fighting, a second call came in about a strong arm robbery involving a cell phone, said.
Berkeley High Principal Pasquale Scuderi confirmed that at least two of the juveniles arrested were Berkeley High students.
Eleven patrol cars, an ambulance and a crime scene investigation van converged on the campus within minutes of the emergency calls.
Berkeley High officials have increased security on campus this fall after several incidents in which students were arrested for carrying guns to school.
