Video: NYPD rescues stranded kayakers

One man was rescued by helicopter, and the other by an officer who jumped into the bay to bring him ashore

QUEENS, New York — A few of the city’s finest plunged into the icy waters of Jamaica Bay Saturday to rescue two kayakers who fell overboard, according to the NYPD.

Upon receiving a 911 call at just after 3 p.m. indicating that two outdoorsmen were bobbing in the bay, the NYPD dispatched a helicopter carrying Detective. Brian Singer and Officer Marian Kopystianskyj, police said.

The chopper located one of the kayakers, 32, and the two cops were deployed from the helicopter, police said. They retrieved the man from the water and took him to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD. The man was then rushed to King County Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
