The Dominion Post

CHRISTCHURCH, Australia — An Australian medical team has used favourable weather conditions in Antarctica to airlift an American from the US McMurdo station.

The Australian Antarctic Division’s Airbus A319 landed back in Christchurch at 7pm last night after an hour on the ground at the base.

Temperatures hit minus 25 degrees Celsius at McMurdo, but conditions otherwise were described as “perfect”.

The US National Science Foundation would not disclose the nature of the illness or injury.
