NEWCASTLE, N.H. — An EMT surprised a couple whose honeymoon had been cancelled with an impromptu tour of the city.

WMUR reported that Newcastle Fire Department EMT Zara Qureshi, who also works at the Ashworth Hotel, heard that Grace and Marty Wallis were staying there because their flight to Italy for their honeymoon was cancelled due to an air traffic control strike.

In an effort to make sure the couple had the best time possible, Qureshi surprised them with an impromptu “honeymoon” tour of the fire department, the Coast Guard station and a light house.

“I just wanted to treat them like they were the only people in the world, the VIPs that they are, and to turn something that was really rotten into something really great,” Qureshi said.

When asked if the trip was better than their planned Italy vacation, Marty said, “This is New England, how can it get any better?”
