WYTHE COUNTY, Va. — A woman is suing a Va. rescue team for more than $1 million after she claims she was dropped during a hospital transport.
Ruby Mooney claims that two unidentified Lead Mines Volunteer Rescue Squad members arrived at her home in July 2012 to transport her to the hospital when the pair dropped her while trying to load her into an ambulance, according to SWVA Today.
According to the lawsuit, Mooney’s family members told the squad members to wait for more help before lifting her via a backboard into an ambulance because of Mooney’s weight.
“The plaintiff did not have a condition that was severe enough to reasonably justify moving the plaintiff without enough people to properly lift her,” the suit said.
The suit didn’t specify what injuries Mooney suffered, but they are described as serious and likely permanent.
Mooney is asking for $1 million in compensation and $350,000 in punitive damages.
A trial date has not been set yet.
