JACKSON COUNTY, Mich. — Ambulances responded to 77 crashes in Jackson County as up to 13.4 inches of snow fell in parts of the county on Monday.
One person in critical condition and nine people in stable condition were taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Health, said Matt Rose, Jackson Community Ambulance public information officer.
There were additional ambulances and paramedics on duty Nov. 11 to handle weather-related crashes while maintaining the same day-to-day 911 coverage, Rose said.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 65 traffic incidents related to the weather, all of which resulted in minor or no injuries, Undersheriff Chris Kuhl said.
In one of the crashes Monday afternoon, a garbage truck and a Dodge Durango hit head-on in Pulaski Township, Michigan State Police said.
A 41-year-old Lenawee County man lost control the Dodge in a curve near the intersection of Pulaski and Wooden roads at about 2:40 p.m., crossed the yellow line and crashed into the 35,000-pound garbage truck, police said.
The driver of the Durango and a passenger in it were taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Health with injuries that are serious, but not life-threatening, police said.
A four-vehicle crash also shut down westbound I-94 near the Race Road exit around 11:50 a.m., Michigan State Police said. The freeway reopened around 1 p.m., according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The Jackson County Department of Transportation had 70 snow plows clearing county and state roads Monday. Plow drivers were back on the roads at 3 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, to finish clearing roads.
Multiple Jackson-area schools were closed Tuesday because of the snow.
