Off-duty medic delivers daughter on roadside

The father then drove his wife and newborn to the hospital after the birth; both mother and child are healthy

LINCOLNWOOD, Ill. — Lincolnwood officials say an off-duty paramedic delivered his baby girl on a Chicago expressway.

Daniel Lynch of the Evanston Fire Department and his wife, Elizabeth, were on their way to a local hospital early Friday morning when they pulled over to deliver the baby. Officials say Daniel Lynch continued to drive his family to the hospital after his daughter was born.

The couple, who lives in Edison Park, named their daughter Mary Margaret Lynch.

Evanston hospital says Mary is healthy and weighs 8 pounds, 7 ounces.
