HERNDON, Va. — A volunteer firefighter-paramedic is being credited for helping to detain a suspect during a police-involved shooting.
According to Fox 5, Fairfax County Firefighter Doug Stevens, 25, was celebrating his birthday with fellow first responders when he heard gunshots and saw a police officer attempting to apprehend a man suspected to be involved in a robbery.
Stevens helped the police officer detain the suspect during the incident.
“My first thought was someone needs help and we need to go help them,” Stevens told Fox 5. “We’re guardians 24/7 – on-duty or off-duty – and if we’re able to help them, we’re going to help them.”
