PENNSYLVANIA — A national shortage of medications is seeping into local communities like the Poconos, making the lifesaving work of ambulance medics more challenging.
“The shortage has stretched way beyond the hospital and extraordinary care facilities to those served by EMS, which means patient safety may be at a greater risk,” said Debbie Kulick, president of Bushkill Emergency Corps Ambulance.
Operations Manager Roy Smith at Central Pocono Ambulance in Tannersville shares Kulick’s concern. “We’ve never run into a shortage like this before,” Smith said.
