JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. — The Jessamine County community gathered in front of the courthouse Sunday evening in honor of a paramedic who was hit by a car last week. Sadly, just before Sunday’s prayer vigil, a Jessamine County official announced John Mackey is not going to make it. Mackey’s family announced plans to take him off life support Monday.

The family says per John’s wishes, they will be donating his organs to hopefully save others. A procession has been planned along US 68 to 169 and then down Main Street to Betts and West Funeral Home.

“John has been in the EMS community for 16 years and has been saving lives all that time, and he is going to continue to save lives by being an organ donor,” said Jessamine County EMS Chaplain Kevin Davidson.
