NEW YORK — An emergency medical technician from the FDNY died while on duty in the Bronx, PIX11 reports.

Frederick D. Whiteside, 43, went into cardiac arrest while working at a 911 dispatch center in New York City on Friday. He was a veteran of 22 years at the FDNY, Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for New York’s Bravest, and for our entire city,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement. “EMT Whiteside spent his career helping those in need, saving lives of New Yorkers. We join the entire Fire Department and every New Yorker in mourning his loss, and pray for EMT Whiteside, his family, and his friends.”

EMT Whiteside joined the FDNY on April 19, 2002. His career spanned across the Bronx and Brooklyn, where he served in EMS Division 2 and EMS Division 3. Since 2019, his assignment had been in the EMS Dispatch.

Whiteside is survived by his daughter, mother, and brother.
