UNION COUNTY, S.D. — An Iowa EMT was killed in an ambulance crash in South Dakota Saturday morning.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported that a 29-year-old female crewmember who was not restrained with a seatbelt was thrown from the ambulance after the rig crossed both lanes of the highway, went into the median and struck the back of a semitrailer.
The crewmember who was driving the ambulance was restrained with a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. The driver of the semitrailer also sustained minor injuries.
The name of the EMS provider who was killed was not initially released by authorities. A Facebook post by Yankton County EMS states that the provider was EMT Tonya Bruscher of Midwest Medical Transport.
