BEAUVAL, Saskatchewan — A paramedic and two children were killed in a crash involving an ambulance Friday.

The ambulance, which was responding to a call, collided with a truck around 5 p.m., CTV News reported. Jerome Coulineur, 12, and one-year-old Kinzey Angeline Iron-Couillonneur died in the collision, according to TheStarPhoenix.com. Two other occupants in the truck were injured.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority confirmed the death of a Meadow Lake paramedic. Beauval Fire and Rescue Chief Jerry Morin said the paramedic was a man in his 20s, but did not provide any further information.

“We are currently working to have community and staff supports in place to provide mental health assistance where needed,” according to a statement from Saskatchewan Health Authority. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with all patients, individuals and families that have been involved and impacted by this tragic accident,” it continued. “EMS personnel put themselves at risk to serve others, so it is especially heartbreaking when they are affected by such a crash.”

Officials said road conditions were “poor with slush and ice-covered sections at the time of the collision,” The Star Phoenix reported.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, but alcohol is not considered a factor in the collision.
