SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A new mobile application will give EMTs and paramedics access to patient health information on the scene of an emergency.
Relying on his experiences in both technology and emergency health, New York state EMT Timothy Kelly developed At The Scene to make first-responders’ time more efficient, to improve response effectiveness, and save lives.
The new app promises to deliver HIPAA-compliant patient information for first responders, allowing them to deliver more informed care. EMTs will be given access to information on a patient’s medications, allergies, recent admissions, pertinent past history, recent vitals, advanced directives, and next of kin.
“In an emergency, timing is crucial,” said Thomas Zercher, a New York paramedic. “Emergency responders do not have time to search for patient records but need access to accurate patient medical histories. This app will give our team the tools they need to quickly and efficiently treat patients, which will be a tremendous benefit for all involved.”
According to a Business Wire press release for the app, pilot testing is beginning later this July in New York State. It will be expanded for testing in Georgia later this year.
The app will be available across iOS, Android, and PC.
