CHESTER, Pa. — Three Chester firefighters suffered unspecified minor injuries early Sunday battling a fire in a short row of houses in the 1200 block of Baker Street.

Crews were dispatched shortly after midnight and found two houses fully involved, William C. Rigby IV, fire commissioner, said.

Battalion Chief Jon Ley immediately requested a second alarm assignment dispatched due to the involvement of the properties, which recalled off-duty firefighters and brought in fire companies from surrounding municipalities, Rigby said.

The commissioner added that one firefighter became trapped after partially falling through the first floor. Others were able to free and remove the trapped firefighter within minutes. Rigby said that the firefighters were transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rigby said he placed the fire under control at 2 a.m.

The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Chester Fire Marshal’s Office, the Chester Police Crime Scene Unit, the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division, and state police.

Rigby said that by 7:30 a.m. all of the firefighters had been released from Crozer Chester.

Further details were not available.
