BEVERLY, Mass. — A man was listed in critical condition after he was struck by a car and became pinned under the vehicle in the parking lot of a North Beverly shopping plaza Wednesday.
Firefighters inserted two air bags under the car and inflated them to lift the vehicle off the man and pull him out. The man was breathing, but unconscious, Fire Chief Paul Cotter said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital and later transferred to the trauma unit at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, where he was listed in critical condition, according to a hospital spokesman. Police called his injuries “severe.”
