Texas medic dies unexpectedly at home

Bill Nixon of Hopkins County EMS also served as a field training officer and a volunteer firefighter; he died from natural causes at home with his family

HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas — Hopkins County EMS paramedic and field training officer Bill Nixon unexpectedly died from natural causes Saturday night while at home with his family.

Nixon began his career at Hopkins County EMS in 1989; he has mentored many paramedics during his career as a paramedic and field training officer. Nixon has also previously served many years as a volunteer fire fighter with the Cumby Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a CPR and ACLS instructor for the American Heart Association and taught many students as an EMT instructor at a local fire academy.

“Hopkins County Memorial Hospital and Clinic, along with Hopkins County EMS extends, our heartfelt gratitude to his wife and daughter for his years of compassionate dedication to the citizens of Hopkins County,” the hospital said in a press release.

Arrangements are through West Oaks Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19.
