NEW YORK — A bicyclist was struck killed Friday after being hit by a private garbage truck in Manhattan.
The unidentified female cyclist appeared to be in her 60s and was not wearing a helmet, the New York Post reports.
After she pushed off from a sidewalk and started pedaling, a garbage truck that was pulling out of traffic hit her.
“He clipped her, and she just rolled and fell underneath the wheel,” Greg Lamans, a nearby street vendor said.
Witnesses said as she was pinned under the wheel and the truck stopped, the woman moved slightly then went still.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene about 10 minutes after the incident. Police are investigating.
